SHINKONG X Puma at World Cup
You may not know just by looking, but Shinkong is on the football pitch, vicariously through Puma-sponsored national teams, at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
The 2022 quadrennial FIFA World Cup is underway (November 20 - December 18), with 32 national teams vying for the world champion title. An estimated 1.5 million are expected to flood the gulf country for the tournament, and four billion viewers are expected to tune in to the Qatar 2022 edition.
The excitement has been building for enthusiastic football fans since the launches of the World Cup home and away kits. Puma, one of the World Cup sponsors, released the kits for the Morocco, Senegal, Ghana, Serbia, Switzerland, and Uruguay teams back in June. We are proud to say that these national teams’ uniforms are all made with Shinkong’s Ultraweave.
While most football jerseys are made with knit fabrics, Ultraweave is a woven dobby weave made of recycled polyester with mechanical stretch. Woven fabrics are more durable than knits because of the interlacing of warp and weft yarns in their construction. It has a reduced carbon footprint, and thanks to the spandex-free stretch, it is recyclable* at the end of life. Ultraweave is a perfect candidate for a circular fashion economy that bypasses the need for petroleum-based virgin materials.
In addition to the World Cup kits, Shinkong has also been supplying Puma with the same base fabric for the team uniforms worn by several divisional and regional football clubs, including OM (Marseille, France), RC Lens (Lens, France), Manchester City (Manchester, England), BMG (Mönchengladbach, Germany), Stade Resnais (Rennes, France), ACM (Milan, Italy), SKS (Gdańsk, Poland), Borussia Dortmund (Dortmund, Germany), FSK (Istanbul, Turkey), and more.
* The recyclability of Ultraweave is substantially increased when the designed-forrecycling mono-material principle is applied to garment making. For more information on garment-to-garment recycling, check out Shinkong’s Infinity Shirt Project (https:// www.infinityshirtproject.com).
